Study on Design of O-ring Used in Mechanical Seal

The O-ring is one of the sealing forms with longest application time. The structure of O-ring is simple and the manufacturing cost of O-ring is low. Therefore, it is one of the most widely used sealing forms.The application of O-ring in mechanical seal is different from other uses of seals. Not only the sealing performance but also the influence on the performance of mechanical seal should be considered in the design. The friction of the working O-ring is analyzed in detail. The design contents needing attention for the O-ring in mechanical seal are presented and some design suggestions are proposed.
